Neighborhood Networks

Neighborhood Networks

Neighborhood Networks supports young children (from birth to age five) who are in informal child care situations – cared for by relatives, friends or neighbors. Neighborhood Networks extends the resources of these informal caregivers, who are exempt from Illinois’ licensing requirements, through home visits and workshops about early childhood learning. Caregivers and families learn about the ways they can nurture young children’s development, making them eager and ready to read.

Neighborhood Networks supports young children, their caregivers and families by offering, at no cost:

  • Books and toys from a lending library
  • Dinner workshops and discussion meetings on issues of early childhood
  • Home visits with reading and storytelling activities
  • Transportation and child care during workshops
  • Information on how to foster early literacy skills
